Program Notes

Election of Officers. Craig will be appointing a Nominating Committee to prepare the slate of those willing to serve as officers for the coming year. The election will take place on March 5. New officer terms will start on April 2.

January 22 - Slide show of 2006 Show & Tell carvings. We will see the slide show of pictures of all the show & tell carvings from 2006. Look at pictures of carvings from other clubs in Chip Chats, then view ours in the slide show. You'll be impressed with our work!

March 19 - Making Habitat. Adelle will show us how to make dirt, sand, leaves, grass, and rocks for habitat for our carvings. This will be a hands-on program to actually learn by doing. Adelle learned habitat as a student of Bob Guge, Ernie Muhlmatt, and Nancy Crippen.

Weekend Workshop - H. Suzuki

Howard Suzuki, author of The Carver's Book of Aquatic Animals, will be our guest instructor for a weekend workshop February 9,10, and 11. You can choose a bottlenose dolphin or a manatee for your primary carving. Howard is giving us a great price for the workshop: $50 instructional fee plus $16 for the first cutout, a total of $66 for the workshop.

The workshop will be held in the classroom of the Florida Art Center & Gallery, 208 NW 1st St., in the historic downtown area of Havana. On Friday, Feb. 9, the workshop will run from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The Feb. 10 & 11 meeting hours will be determined at the Friday night session.

Howard will have additional cutouts of other aquatic animals if you have already carved a dolphin or manatee. Extra cutouts of several aquatic animals will be available at about $16 each to those in the class or club members dropping by for a visit.

A retired marine biologist, Howard is an expert in aquatic animals. He's a great teacher and has fun in his workshops. This is top-notch instruction at a great price! The club treasurer, Irv Jahns, will collect the $66 fee no later than the Jan. 22nd meeting. The club then writes one check to the guest instructor for the basic fees.

Sign up for the workshop with Tana Grattet. There is a limit of 12 for the workshop, but a waiting list will be maintained. Tana can be contacted at the Jan. 8th meeting or at 668-4245.
