Suwannee River Woodcarvers Roundup

A woodcarvers’ roundup is an event that brings people together for 3 to 5 days of carving fun, socializing and low-cost instruction with well-known teachers. The roundup in Florida is called the Suwannee River Woodcarvers Roundup at Manatee Springs State Park. It will take place March 28 to April 1, 2007 at the park near Chiefland (100 miles from Tallahassee.) Carving classes will be available on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Non-carving companions and visitors are welcome at anytime during the roundup. Art and craft classes are available for non-carving companions.

There are changes in the operation and financing of the roundup. Those taking woodcarving classes are encouraged to pre-register by March 1 and indicate the classes of your choice. After March 1 you register and pay when you arrive. The Roundup Registration Fee of $30 must accompany the pre-registration form. The forms are available at club meetings or on the Roundup website at www.geocities.com/podea_2000/ Class assignments will be made based on the postmark date of pre-registration. Acknowledgements of pre-registration and confirmation of registrant's classes will be sent on March 1.

The Roundup Registration Fee will pay for pavilions, tent and table rentals, hot dog night, pizza night, setups for pot luck and coffee. There will be no raffles and no constant hounding for donations. Your registration includes two free tickets for the instructor-carved friendship cane and the door prize raffles. There will be instructional fees to be paid directly to the instructors (cash preferred). Most fees are $10 for the day plus the cost of the cutout or roughout. The fees are listed with the instructors' descriptions of their classes. Carving clubs are invited to display their work. Carvings by club members may be entered for competitive awards. Four awards will be given--first, second and third best of show awards for specific carvings and an award for best club display.
