Weekend Workshop

The Weekend Workshop is February 28 and March 1, 2015. The club chose to do walking sticks with Barbara as the instructor. There will be a variety of raw sticks to choose from — diamond willow, sassafras, aspen, cedar to name a few — ranging in cost from $10 to $25. The instruction fee for the workshop is $65. It will be held at Lewis Digital from 9 to 5 each day.

Barbara will provide a set of written instructions, machines for sanding, instruction in carving wood spirit face or other figure in stick, and finishing materials. The goal will be to carve the figure, sand, and get at least one coat of finish on the stick by Sunday afternoon.

As some sticks may need to be debarked before the workshop, all available sticks will be at the Feb. 9th meeting for participants to make a choice. The sticks musl be paid for at this time. The bark needs to be removed before the workshop. A couple aspen sticks are available for chip carving or creating a whimsical house stick.

Part of the workshop will take place out-of-doors so we can use the power sanders and the pungent finish. All carving will be done indoors. Refer questions to Barbara.
