Message from our club president:

The president has the responsibility to see that the club activities are carried out. This will often take the form of appointing members as chair of an activity or event and then following up with that member. It is easy for the club members to leave everything to the president and other officers to do, but they need to accept some responsibility for the club. Insofar as possible, club members should be asked to chair activities not specifically delegated to an officer. We do not need to burn out the interested members or elected officers. Let's try to get people to share the work.

Sanding in the Arts and Craft Annex

Everyone has been very diligent about sweeping up their wood chips from the floor and placing them in the trash. A problem arises when one sands a carving project in the room. Please remember that we are not the only ones to use the room. Oil paintings and the like are also in the room and sanding creates a lot of dust that adheres to the paintings. It can mess up an otherwise beautiful piece of art. Your carving neighbors are also breathing in this dust, not to mention the one sanding. This dust can wreck havoc with the lungs. Barbara Mann and Lee Roberts both had COPD. Please be respectful of your own health and the others in the room by NOT sanding during the meetings. If you need a dust mask, they are available. Just use them at home.

A few days ago, I got some interesting responses from relatives about the picture I posted on Facebook showing my chip carved pencil holders. One response was whether I could carve a hummingbird for his wife to paint — one they had seen on a birding trip. Another was whether I carved gargoyles, like on cathedrals in Europe — he had some pictures he could send me. A third was a request to whittle some old fashioned whirly-gigs and/or whistles from tree branches for (cont. next page)
