Weekend Workshop

February 25-26, 2012

The overwhelming choice for a February Weekend Workshop was animals. Barbara Mann, who has been teaching animal carving since 1976, will be the instructor for the workshop on Feb. 25 & 26. The hours will be Saturday, 9 to about 5, and Sunday, 9 to about 4. We will use the workshop area of Lewis Digital at 630 Capital Circle NE for the workshop. The instructional cost for the two days is $60 payable to the club. Each carver will be responsible for paying Barbara directly for all cutouts at the workshop. Instructions and resource pictures will accompany the cutouts and are included in the price of the cutout.

The club has chosen three animals to be available at the workshop. The choices are: Giraffe (2.25" x 11" x 4") — $10; Bison (2.5" x 4" x 6") — $8; Squirrel with Nut (1.75" x 4.5" x 4.5") — $6. All will be available in basswood or butternut. Finished examples (go-bys) of each will be available at future club meetings and at the workshop. Each animal is a significant weekend project and may be made as realistic as the carver desires. If you want to do a realistic carving with woodburning and painting, order it in basswood. Butternut works very well for a natural wood finish and less detailed carving.

Barbara will have a sign up sheet at club meetings for cutouts. The deadline to sign-up for the workshop, for cutouts, and for payment of the instruction fee is Feb. 20th. Early sign-up and payment is encouraged-it helps with planning for the weekend.

Photos of the three carvings will be posted to the club website (www.carvers.mytalweb.com) as soon as the carvings are ready. Contact Barbara Mann with questions: 562-8460 or carvermann@yahoo.com.
