2015 Florida Woodcarvers Roundup

The Roundup will take place Tuesday, February 3rd, through Friday, February 6th, at the Long Center, 1501 N. Belcher, Clearwater, FL The Long Center opens at 7:30 a.m. for walk-in-registration and classes start at 8:30 a.m. and run until 4:30 p.m. Pre-registration must be postmarked by Jan. 27th. Pre-registration guarantees you space in the classes of your choice. Walk-in registration is limited to the classes available for that day which is usually most, but not all, of the classes. Either way, registration is $8 per day.

Class Offerings and Descriptions

  1. Figures in Cypress Knees, Barbara Mann. Instruction fee $20, $10 each returning day. Cypress knees $5 to $35. Cypress knees work for Santa's, wizards and wood spirits or other projects.
  2. Cottonwood Bark Houses, Ginny Gray. Instruction fee $30, $15 per returning day. Bark pieces $10 to $25. Each piece will be different.
  3. Pierced Relief, Jim Van-Duyns. Projects take from 2 to 4 days: old cabins, barns, covered bridges and out houses. Instruction fee $25 per day. Wood & glass $25-$30.
  4. Flowers, Charley Phillips. Instruction fee $30 per day. Blanks $5 and up to $35 basswood box blank. Delicate floral carving on practical items.
  5. Chip Carving, Marty Leenhouts. Instruction fee $30 per day. Material fees $14 to $25 per project.
  6. Spirit Faces in Cottonwood Bark, Chris Howard. Instruction fee $30 per day. Bark $10-$25.
  7. Woodburning, Carolyn Marek. Instrution fee $25 per day-includes one piece of wood. Several projects available, emphasis on techniques.
  8. Animal Carving, Bob Marek. Instruction fee $30, $20 each returning day. Projects: horse, sea turtle, mother and baby giraffe, prairie dog. Cutouts in basswood $10 to $20.
  9. Deep Relief, Clancy Smith. Instruction fee $35 first day with wood included, $10 each returning day. Projects: Montana scene or eagle head.
  10. Characters in Relief, Soapstone Carving, small Bark Projects, Mary Weinheimer. Instruction fee $20 per day. Cutouts $5 to $35. Soapstone $7 to $15.
  11. Totem Poles and Dragons, Ralph Rossignol. Instruction fee $30 per day. Cutouts $25.
  12. Mirror Etchings, Chris O'Dea. Instruction free $12 includes one 5x7 mirror and 2 ornament sized mirror projects. Thursday and Friday only.
  13. Human Face Study Stick, Jim O'Dea. Instruction fee and materials $20 per day. Tuesday- Mouth and Face; Wednesday- Eyes and Ears; Thursday- carving small characters; Friday- Peek-a-boo Santa/Tree.
  14. Caricatures, Steve Brown. Instruction fee $25 per day. Over 150 roughouts to choose from, cost $9 to $65. Classes fill early — pre-registration recommended.
  15. Caricatures, Floyd Rhadigan. Instruction fee $25 per day. Roughouts $8 to $35. Classes fill early — pre-registration recommended.
  16. Realistic Animals, Leah Goddard. Instruction fee $30 per day. Roughouts $10 to $35. Projects include raccoon, rabbit, squirrel, bear, mouse, beaver, gorilla, and "kitten in a mitten" ornament. Classes fill early — pre-registration recommended.
  17. Caricature - Bottle Stopper Head, Pete LeClair. Two day classes (T-W or TH-F), instruction fee $60 with all materials provided.
  18. Gourd Chip Carving, Sharon Wright. One day classes Tues. & Wed. Instruction & supplies $35.
